My staff could tell you that I very rarely lose my temper at work. I’m really very tolerant and easy going. This morning, however, somebody crossed the line. He doesn’t work for me, but I supported his getting the promotion that put him in the position he is now in. Big mistake. Don’t F**K with my ability to do my job. Just. Don’t.
The email that started my day:
Good morning Sue!
I hope you’re having a good morning so far…
M informs me that you called him to report an issue at Warren County. We are working on the problem but are awaiting calls back from either J G or M R of OFT. Nothing can be done with either the OFT or LDSS network without their input and assistance.
In the future, please direct any requests regarding these problems to me. Do not call M or D directly. They will receive directions on how to proceed from me.
Thanks Sue,
My response:
No R, I am not having a good morning so far! I have four trainers tap dancing because they can’t get a connection in Warren County, and eight county staff who will be wasting their very valuable time if a connection can’t be made. This is, right now, the highest priority . As you mentioned in your last note, D and M did an outstanding job of resolving the issue last week, and they were called directly then because you were nowhere to be found. My last communication regarding Warren County was that M was the IT point person for this issue, so he was the person I called this morning.
I do not agree with you that these issues are out of the scope of work or authority of the IT staff who are assigned to EEDSS. In my opinion this is one of the most important IT responsibilities – keeping EEDSS up and running for the LDSS who are our primary users. I absolutely do agree with you that M and D showed great professionalism and dedication in their efforts to resolve the issues last week on very short notice. Unfortunately, these things will always happen on short notice and under great time constraints. As you know, when we tested the connection during pre-implementation it worked flawlessly.
One of my primary responsibilities is to make sure that the training is accomplished within the time allotted by the LDSS managers. I will call whomever I need to call to make sure that happens.
So there!
